Electric drive systems for off-highway machines
Much like in the automotive industry, the trend of electrification is also becoming more and more prominent in the segment of off-highway machinery. We are able to design and deliver an efficient electric drive system for a small tow truck as well as a 10-ton machine.
One of the biggest challenges in electrifying the drive systems of off-highway machines is the limited space for drive system components as well as their durability and ability to withstand harsh operating conditions.
Thanks to our long-term experience in system design, we can help machine manufacturers overcome all the obstacles of electrification. We provide advice on selecting the most suitable components, whether the priority is the power, compact dimensions, or high durability and reliability.
Generally speaking, an electric drive system consists of a battery, one or more electric motors, a gearbox and a motor controller used for regulating the electric motor speed. As far as the combination of an electric motor and a gearbox is concerned, we use either a connection to a planetary gearbox (wheel or belt), or a connection to a transaxle which includes a gearbox.
Thanks to the wide portfolio of products we work with, we can design a system for a machine weighing from 500 kg up to a couple of dozens of tons. Depending on the load, we choose the most suitable type of electric motor and gearbox.
To mention some examples of electrification projects that we have successfully completed, we have recently helped to develop an electric drive for a light tandem vibratory roller, in which an electric motor drives the machine's drum using a planetary gearbox.
Other references include a mobile mini crane and a remotely controlled mini loader, for which we delivered a system solution of electric motors with planetary gearboxes powering the tracked undercarriage.
Other interesting e-drive solutions that we have completed in the segment of work machines include a compact agricultural tractor or a garden tractor, for which we have used a complete electric transaxle as part of the system solution.
